Top seeds avoid big clashes in the first round

The Main Draw of fifth edition of the Millennium Estoril Open has seen the light. The top names and rising talents can now prepare their debut in this ATP Tour event, to be held between 27th April and 5th May, at the Clube de Ténis do Estoril.

This will be the first time that a portuguese champion will defend his title.
However, João Sousa, world number 50, will need another two days to know his
opponent´s name, knowing already that he will come from qualifying. Already
awaiting in second round for the winner of this duel, is David Goffin, seed number
4 of the tournament and ranked 22.

One of the most charismatic players is Gael Monfils. The French “showman” has a
bye in first round and is in the same half draw wilth runner-up Frances Tiafoe
(#30), which means a possible clash in semi-finals between the two.

Pablo Carreno Busta (#29), the player with best results in the tournament history,
is looking for the best shape, after recovering from injury. The Spanish, who has
been semifinalist in the inaugural edition, in 2015, and last year, finalist in 2016
and champion in 2017, will meet the french Jeremy Chardy.

Fabio Fognini arrives in Estoril full of joy after the recently win at Masters 1000
Monte Carlo. Seeded number 2, the Italian will skip the first round, but can make
his debut against an new champion, Filip Krajinovic, who is the final of the ATP
250 Budapest.

The Main seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, the best Greek tennis player of all time and
also one of the most popular these days, is back. It will be the return of the 20-
year-old tennis player to Clube de Ténis do Estoril, after a loss to champion Sousa
in the semis last year, but with a new status of top 10, after having been
semifinalist at the Australian Open. 

Among so many talents, stands out the USA army led by 2018 runner-up, Frances
Tiafoe, who starts against Mikhail Kukushkin. Reilly Opelka (the 211cm player) will
be the opponent of portuguese wild card Pedro Sousa, Taylor Fritz will play a
qualifyer and Mackenzie McDonald will play Yoshihito Nishioka, from Japan.

Other interesting match will be the one that joins argentine Leonardo Mayer and
serbian Dusan Lajovic (#24), recently runner-up at Masters 1000 Monte Carlo and
seed number 5.
